As a tool designed for splitting expenses, we collect certain financial-related information to provide our core features.

  • Account Data: When you create an account using email, Apple, or Google, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo.
  • Expense Data: When you use SplitWit, we collect data about your shared expenses, including amounts, currencies, descriptions, and the group members involved.
  • Communications: If you contact us for support or feedback, we collect the contents of your messages and your contact information.

Information collected automatically:

  • Device Information: We collect basic device information (device type, operating system version) and crash logs to improve app stability.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information exclusively to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve SplitWit's core functionality (calculating balances, managing groups).
  • Sync your expense data securely across your devices in real-time.
  • Send essential service communications, such as password resets or critical updates.
  • Analyze app and website usage to fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, nor do we use your financial or expense data for targeted advertising.

4. Third-Party Integrations and Data Sharing

We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Other Users: By the nature of the app, users you invite to groups will see your profile name, photo, and the expenses you share with them.
  • Service Providers: We use trusted third-party providers for hosting (e.g., Supabase) and analytics. These providers are bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
  • Authentication Providers: If you log in using Google or Apple, we share necessary authentication tokens to verify your identity.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your expense data is stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. When you choose to sync, data is transmitted via encrypted channels (TLS 1.3) and stored on secure cloud servers with AES-256 encryption at rest. We follow industry best practices for data security, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can request to export or delete your data at any time. When you request account deletion, all associated personal and expense data is permanently removed from our active servers within 30 days.

Depending on your location, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (2023) or the GDPR/CCPA, you may have the right to:

  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Withdraw consent, restrict, or object to our processing of your data.

8. International Data Transfers

SplitWit is operated from India, but our backend infrastructure and databases are hosted on servers located in the United States. By using our Services, you consent to the transfer, processing, and storage of your information in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. We ensure that our third-party hosting providers (such as Supabase) employ strict security measures to protect your data during these transfers.

9. Children's Privacy

SplitWit is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected such data, we will delete it immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of any material changes through the App, website, or via email.
